The Northfield Lodge is in an excellent location, being situated in the picturesque Yorkshire Wolds. There are many stunning walks on the doorstep, including the famous Woldsway. The historic city of York is just a short drive away, as well as many traditional villages and seaside towns.
The famous Yorkshire Wolds Way footpath is right on the door step as is The Chalkland Way and The Minster Way. All offer beautiful views across the Wolds in every direction.
The Wolds Way path is a 79 mile footpath starting at Hessle and finishing at Filey, running directly through Huggate, one of the poets benches is just metres off Northfield Lodge driveway.
The David Hockney Art trail gives Hockney lovers a chance to find all the view points that Hockney worked from for his Bigger Picture exhibition and famous East Yorkshire paintings. Huggate is in the heart of Hockney country.
If you prefer cycling – bring your bikes and enjoy a challenging ride up and down the Wolds and the fabulous scenery.
The beautiful historic York city centre is just a 30 minute drive away and offers superb shopping opportunities, restaurants, and bars. York also features many popular tourist attractions including York Minster, Jorvik Viking Centre, Stonegate and The Shambles, Railway Museum, York Castle, Betty’s Tea Rooms, Theatre Royal .
Beverley – renowned for its exquisite 13 century Minster. Voted as one of the best places to live, is like a mini York . Great shopping , bars cafes and restaurants. Beverley races.
Pocklington – is the closest town to shop, a classic English market town at the foot of the Yorkshire Wolds , supermarkets, butchers, greengrocers, delis, boutiques, gift shops, chemist, market every Tueday. Pocklington Arts Centre is an award winning multi arts venue and definatly worth checking out what’s on during your stay .
There are many good pubs and restaurants in the area – booking is always recommended.
The closest – within walking distance is The Wolds Inn – Huggate which serves beer and traditional pub food.
The Gaite (10 minutes drive) – in the lovely Wolds village of Millington serves good beer and food to many walkers.
The Wellington Inn (20 minutes drive ) – Lund – a lovely family owned gastro pub – fine traditional food.
The Star Inn at Sancton (25 minutes drive) – a charming gastro pub, set in an old coaching inn.
The Goodmanham Arms, Goodmanham (25 minutes drive) – quirky family run pub with a micro brewery, rustic good food.
Cerutti 2 (30 minutes drive) – restaurant specialising in fish in the the lovely small city of Beverley.
The Pipe & Glass (20 minutes drive) – famous Michelin star gastro pub run by James Mckenzie.
The Westwood restaurant, Beverley (30 minutes drive).
Roots restaurant York (35 minutes drive) – Michelin star run by Tommy Banks.
The Ivy (35 minutes drive) York – consistently good food.
The Star Inn The City, York (35 minutes drive) – positioned next to the river , lovely terrace when it’s sunny.
The east coast beaches are just a 35 minute drive – Flamborough head , Filey, Bridlington and Fraisethorpe beach is dog friendly.
Bemptem Cliffe’s a NSPB nature reserve is a Mecca for bird watching.
There are many houses and gardens to visit with in 30 minutes drive – Castle Howard, Burton Agnes Hall and gardens, Scampston Hall and gardens, Sledmere House and gardens, Burnby Hall and gardens.
Children’s Activities – award winning Williams Den at North Cave – an adventure of indoor and outdoor play, Piglets Adventure Farm at Towthorpe near York. The Deep aquarium in Hull, Allerthorpe water Park is great fun for older children. Eden Camp modern history museum, Yorkshire air museum at Elvington.
A fabulous cottage surrounded by the most stunning countryside. Lots of great walks in the surrounding area and wildlife in abundance! The cottage is immaculately clean and comfortable…. the beds were so cosy!
